Hack Your Boogie Board!
I have an old Boogie Board (Probably the first generation) that has run out of battery. I love my boogie board simply because it writes like paper and it is paperless. It’s pressure sensitive so, it’s great for sketching as well. The boogie board is supposed to allow for about 3,000 erases. Now, that’s a lot. I’ve had mine for about 2 years until it finally ran out of juice.
What I don’t like was that fact that it costs $60 to get a new board and really, all it needs is a new battery! I’m all for cheapness and reducing my e-waste as well. So I decided to open it up and hack my boogie board. I had to learn some soldering skill. It’s really not that difficult to solder stuff. Just make sure you get a tip tinner.
I took off the cover and pried the battery free. Then I soldered a AAx2 battery holder to the wires and removed the erase button.(I hated the erase button because it took a lot of force to get it to work, I furnished a new one just using an eraser.) Used a lot of tape to keep the cover together and mounting tape to hold the battery holder in place. I would have screwed the cover bad on, but I lost the screws. haha And so, it works!! Total cost was about $3.(Not inclusive of soldering iron and accessories)
Have fun with this hack! =D
